Just saw the doc, quite by accident. Went straight to the website to donate, even though the last feature film I worked on was over 12 years ago. I just couldn’t take the hours. I am still in IATSE, though, so I feel responsible for supporting you all. Thanks for doing this. You will save lives, families and marriages.
another major problem is the amount of crew members who have no problem doing the longer hours because they want to make the extra overtime there needs to be something done for those of us who don’t want want out lives to 100% revolve around work and be put in jeopardy
This has to be a North American wide thing. All the States as well as Canada and it’s provinces. We must be united in this cause.
This is a problem that is also very prevelant in the Post production and CGI/VFX side of the industry. Schedules are always undersetimated, crews are always too small for the workload, and deadlines are always too short. I just finished working on the 2D-3D conversion of Clash of the Titans, and we had 2 days off in the final 2 months, with 14 hour days, 7 days a week for the last month to finish the show. The last week was 96 hours for me personally. This has to change, it’s no way to spend your life. The occasional long day is acceptable, but every project shouldn’t be an emergency.
